Supernatural Vid Rec
Dec. 14th, 2005 01:44 amI just found a Supernatural Vid that I really enjoyed. Don't Want to Wake Up
This is the best Supernatural vid I've seen so far, great music choice, I loved the editing, the theme, and when I found out
heartcore47 used WMM to make this vid my esteem for his skills went up even more. It's a tough program to use and he managed beat the program into submission and create a wonderful vid.
edit: I deleted previous rec under the cut because I think I was being an ass about some stuff and could have phrased things better.
Cavets about the vid: Actually nothing is wrong with the vid. I just like meta about vids hidden until after I've seen the vid. it's kind of like getting spoilers before you see the movie. And there is one more thing that bothered me but if you skip the meta and go straight to the vid it probably won't bother you at all.

Date: 2005-12-14 08:22 am (UTC)I wrote what this vid was supposed to be about because, afterall, it was my interpretation and my video. Maybe I should put that under a cut.
And the vidder. The vidder has a name, it's Jake, and the user is
I'm a little offended but extremely flattered at the same time. But I'll take on board what you've said, and I'll use cuts for my comments from now on, and I'll fix the glitches before I upload.
Thankyou.

Date: 2005-12-14 08:36 am (UTC)I apologize for the way I recommended your vid. There are nicer and more politically right ways to voice my opinions that don't leave the person I really want to compliment thinking WTF too.
I'm going to revise what I original wrote because I was being an ass and really your vid deserves better.
though in the future it may not hurt to leave comments for your vid behind a LJ cut so the people who want to read them before watching can go and read them and people like me who like going into a vid completely unbiased can skip straight to the vid.
I know it's tough using WMM and honestly I saw no flaws in your vid. Sometimes if you know there is a flaw but don't have time to fix it, silence is better than pointing it out, chances are most watchers won't notice. And if later in the future you post a remastered version people will download again to watch.
Not sure why you're still using WMM but if you have dsl and don't mind using illegal software I can hook you up or at least point you in the right direction. really 3 hours to render your vid???? That's awful. :(
My apologies. This week I seem to be sticking my foot in my mouth more often than I mean to. You have every right to be offended. I was being bitchy because I was a little annoyed that you knowingly posted a vid that you knew had a flaw and then I couldn't find it. Um thats still no excuse for how I wrote what I wrote. I was wrong.

Date: 2005-12-14 08:40 am (UTC)I'm thinking about purchasing a professional video editing suite, but I'm nervous about it. I don't know if I'd be able to get to grips with such a complex interface, I love the simplicity of WMM, that's why I've stuck with it for so long.
I didn't mean to react as coldly as I did, but I've got to get to college now. Thankyou for your feedback. :)

Date: 2005-12-14 09:50 am (UTC)I'm 100% okay with non-friends reading my journal. I don't believe in f-locking entries, though occassionally I do get caught with my pants down, and end up with sucky first impressions. I don't always think before I post, which is actually pretty much how I'm like most of the time. Imagine trying to make friends in real life with this kind of cluelessness....not so easy.
moving right along...
My biggest recommendation before you spend lots of money on a video editing software is to try them out first. Everyone's computers react differently to the various programs.
I've downloaded and experimented with Pinnacle Studio Plus 9.4.3, Ulead Video Studio 9, Sony Vegas 6.0, and Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5
People who like WMM generally love Pinnacle, possibly because they have more patience? However, unless Pinnacle Studio Plus 10 accepts AVI files created with xvid codecs your downloaded versions of Supernatural probably won't load into the library manager or split into scenes, and will crash the program often. Pinnacle also eats up lots of memory, if you have a 1 gig of memory to spare and a fairly good video card you should do fine.
Pinnacle has it's good sides though. It's simple to use, has a nice interface, looks a lot like WMM, and has some fairly decent tranisitions. However, the customer support SUCKS GOLF BALLS THROUGH A GARDEN HOSE so if you do have issues with the program good luck getting professional help on it. You'll be better off asking random people off the street for advice.
However to be fair some people have ZERO problems with Pinnacle. You won't know if you're that person until after you've spent the money and installed it though.
the next user friendly program is Ulead Video Studio (what I use to vid) it uses less memory than Pinnacle and for me it doesn't crash at all. (other people have had problems with this program crashing, however there is tech support and a really nice forum that has a lot of answers. I've even made a tutorial)
The interface is different but it comes with an easy to follow video tutorial. It also accepts AVI xvid episodes. (biggest reason I'm still with this program) It also has a multi-trim bar (Pinnacle does not).
There is a limit in the amount of libraries you can create (it's 45 I think)...and the possiblity that it may crash.
Vegas and Adobe Premiere have similar setups, neither are as intuitive as Pinnacle or Ulead, but they have something neither the first two programs have. More editing tracks. Pinnacle and Ulead only offer two, Vegas has 4 and Adobe allows you to create as many as you want. The learning curve is steeper for both and neither accept AVIs created with xvid, however you can use avsynth to import your AVI files with adobe (not sure about Vegas)
Vegas uses the least amount of memory and I found it more user friendly than Adobe. The program is only 60-80MB.
Adobe allows non-linear editing (only one out of the ones I talked about here)
Sorry for the information overkill. I just don't want you to spend money until you've tried out the programs and found one that works with your computer.

Date: 2005-12-14 06:27 pm (UTC)good luck with both programs, I think trying out the trial first is a great idea. I hope one of the programs works for you. :) I'm still debating on installing Pinnacle Studio 10 to see if it works any better than the previous versions. Or if it'll allow me to use my xvid AVI files.

Date: 2005-12-14 09:48 pm (UTC)You may not be thanking me next week if Pinnacle works the way I expect it to. :) Premiere may be overwhelming...but good luck with it (I won't be able to help you much with Premiere I'm still trying to figure it out)

Date: 2005-12-14 09:51 pm (UTC)In version 8, it asked before it sent anything to the trash can but in 9 it doesn't. shift+delete is your friend.

Date: 2005-12-14 09:55 pm (UTC)In WMM, it was on average 200 clips, but a lot of the good stuff was missed out. I usually went by thumbnail, that's why I used some of my clips so much, I forgot about some of the other ones.

Date: 2005-12-14 10:14 pm (UTC)Quick question: Is there a way of auto-muting the audio on each of the video tracks, so that the only audio would be the song placed on the Music Track?

Date: 2005-12-15 01:35 am (UTC)I think I answered your question. You can mute the original audio and have the music track play with the video. the mute option is kind of small but it's there. select the clip you want to mute and right above Reverse Video is the music icon...it's next to the volume bars.
