Guys, I just realized Steven Yeun, the actor that plays Glenn in the "Walking Dead" TV series, also played Wan in "Legend of Korra! I loved those three episodes of Korra and had no clue my favorite character in Walking Dead played Wan. I'm now checking out who else voice acted in Korra....

Has anyone on my flist bought a scuba mask recently that required prescription lens? If so any advice? Has anyone had experience with the pre-made lenses that they insert into the frame? 10 years ago they were gluing the lens on the inside of the mask and I don't remember having any troubles seeing out of the mask.

I can't seem to find any good reviews on the pros and cons of either method. The scuba diving shop also said they can't correct for astigmatism.

Every year I'm tempted to get the lasik surgery. It would save time and money in the long run.

Tumblr

I created an account on Tumblr because I kept finding these interesting DCU communities and then I realized some of my flist have Tumblr and are using it. But I haven't figured out what to follow or how to post just yet. Not sure if I should just share the same stuff there that I share here, like recs or if I should post other things?

In any case, I'm http://amalthia.tumblr.com/

I'd love to know whe else on my flist is using Tumblr and what they find most helpful about the site vs using DW/LJ.

My initial impressions is that it's made for easily sharing photos and videos.

I love the music from the band 30 Seconds to Mars and I just now discovered that Jared Leto is the lead singer! I have no clue how I missed this tidbit of information for years?????

P.S. I have the strangest feeling that I recently saw a music vid to the song This is War but I can't for the life of me remember what fandom or even if it exists???? Obviously, it's time for bed. Maybe I'll remember tomorrow at work.

Today I had to make a new macro to address a problem with ellipses in stories. It's not a problem that authors use them but for some reason Calibre doesn't recognize them depending on how they were made.

Here's the macro for anyone else converting docs to mobi or epub.

With Selection.Find
.Text = "…"
.Replacement.Text = "..."
.Forward = True
.Wrap = wdFindContinue
.Format = False
.MatchCase = False
.MatchWholeWord = False
.MatchWildcards = False
.MatchSoundsLike = False
.MatchAllWordForms = False
End With
Selection.Find.Execute Replace:=wdReplaceAll

I may end up sharing more macros as time goes on but currently the file is rather huge and most of it is geared towards removing the codes Word Perfect inserts into the HTML files it creates.

This is another request for help to find a single file version of a fic.

To Dream, Perchance to Live It's 164k words, J2 story, and I haven't had the time to hunt down all the chapters/parts to download. But it does sound like an interesting story. I know it's posted a bit oddly but I'm hoping someone else is able to make better sense of it.

My email is amalthia at gmail.com

I'm also willing to share back other big bang fics I've merged for anyone that would like to collaborate to share single file versions of these stories.

Busy Day

I feel like I've been running since I got up this morning.

[profile] nev_longbottom and I went to the Anchorage farmers market. I found these awesomely HUGE strawberries, picked up some fresh cherries and raspberries. It was fun, we walked through the whole market. Afterward we went to JC Pennies and I bought new pillows and then went to the Darkhorse coffee shop. I had some type of cherry green tea and [profile] nev_longbottom had coffee with whipped cream on top. It looked good!

We were planning on seeing Nightmare on Elm Street afterward but we'd missed the 2pm showing so we'll probably go tomorrow instead. :) And maybe play some tennis after the movie if it doesn't start raining.

After I dropped [profile] nev_longbottom at a music store I went home and then my husband and I went to the Bear Tooth had dinner and then played Go at Tidal Wave with other members of the Anchorage Go Club. I'm so rusty at this game. I'd pretty much stopped going on Saturdays this last semester because I was spending my Saturdays at the library instead.

The good news is that my hard work paid off and I made two A's this semester. The downside is my Go game suffered. But it'll come back to me and I'll pick it up again.

I think in about twenty minutes I'll watch Doctor Who and Legend of the Seeker. :)

But yeah this was a busy day! Fun but busy. :)

http://owl.tauri.org/stories.php?psid=218

I tried to make an account to read it but I never got the activation email and strangely you have to be a registered user to contact anyone at this site. :( BTW, this is a big FAIL!!!!

I know there is a PDF at her website and the ff.net version is PG-13, I think the Owl version is the whole thing with the porn...which is the version I'd prefer to read if possible.

I'd appreciate any and all help. I'm a bit down about Legend of the Seeker getting canceled.

Go

Does anyone on any of my flists play the game Go?

I was thinking it would be fun to play with fellow fandom people instead of strangers on the Go servers???

I've been doing research to figure out if I can create a style that incorporates a Print link/button like what efiction has on it's story pages. Here's an example of what page looks like before you hit the print link/button Here here's what it looks like afterwords It probably would have been a better example to use an Angst Archive story...but the general point is the print button stripped out all unnecessary code.

I'd like to do the same with LJ for when I save stories. Unnecessary code being all comments and the LJ header at the top with my user icon.

I've explored extensions to see if any exist that will accomplish this task, checked out the community suggestion (where more than one person has asked for a print view option, for actually printing from LJ)

I think for tonight I'm done researching and trying things out. I thought the print button would be easier than somehow creating a program where you select your links (like in download them all) and have the program remove unnecessary elements, and combine all files into a neat html file. Like fanfiction downloader does for fanfiction.net stories.

I'm driving myself a bit crazy here because I'm sure if I could figure out how to modify my style layer? I should be able to insert it..but it looks like I'll have to read up on this topic a bit more before I start mucking about in the code without a clue.

Office Tabs I can't imagine how I ever got along using Microsoft Word without this program. This program is especially handy for anyone who merges fics a lot.
amalthia: (Supernatural Deanshow)
Here's the link Hopefully it works but it's basically the apple trailer site trailer 3. I love the song (and if anyone wants a copy email me and I'll get it to you tomorrow night) this is actually like a music video and I loved watching this knowing what really happened in the movie.

I also realized that the story for Star Trek is kind of simple in a way and I'm thinking uncomplicated is probably best for movies because you don't really have a lot of time to get into all the details.
amalthia: (CareBears Cheer)
Okay the movie was good. :) I liked the action, the special effects and yes there are probably a few plot holes but I really liked the movie. So I don't get why the critics hated it. The movie had everything I expected. Lots of action, some funny parts, and the story made sense.

No, it was not as good as Star Trek but it's kind of like comparing apples and oranges. I thought this movie was about as good as the first Transformers.

And it's late so I'm getting to bed.
