Three more days

Finally, only three more days and I'll be done with the frustration of reading Three Fates (not giving the link because honestly don't want anyone else to feel tortured, I figured everyone else who's already started the story is kind of screwed anyway)

um a friend described reading this story like watching a movie for 10-15 minutes then stopping it for 24 hours before watching the next 15 minutes...honestly I'm not sure what the authors are using as their criteria for stopping points but back when I started this fic I figured they were going to post in 10,000 words increments (which is LJ's max word limit?) and I started the story because 10,000 words is a decent sized story for a day, but the authors are instead posting 2,000 and 3000 word parts, sometimes 6000 words. Basically i think this story could have been over and done with a week ago.

So anyway, I'm going to be glad to finally be at the end and I can stop feeling frustrated and annoyed at the end of each part. (I know I should stop and just wait to the end, but come on, if I had that kind of self control I never would have started the story in the first place)

The story is decent, however the way I've been reading it, there's like no dramatic tension and if there is, it's gone by the next day. So if you haven't started, please keep waiting until the story is finished. I'm sure it'll be a really good story if you can read it in one go or however long it takes you to read a 100,000 word novel.

I know I already said this but as far as I'm concerned the story is mostly ruined for me. I'm going to have to wait a year before I re-read it and see if it gets any better.

edit: ate some food, gave some thought about this post, and realized I'm kind of bitchy and complain a lot.

lol, that's a very good point. :) I actually do feel better venting. If I thought praising the story would actually convince them to post it faster I'd do that....

I think everyone has their own way of reading stories. I read so fast that I finish the short posts in less than 10 minutes and it feels unfinished/incomplete like there just isn't enough there.

I don't get how for anyone else 2000 word posts are enough, but reminding myself that everyone is unique kind of helps. :)

i totally get your point. i do. i'm just not getting the same reaction to it. but i don't have any real problems reading WIPS either, so maybe that's why?

I like WIP and have no problems reading them, I think WIP have natural stopping points. Three Fates...the authors/beta readers had to create them and sometimes I don't think they picked good spots to stop at.

For me to get that good feeling in my stomach from reading a good story, there's got to be enough there to generate the feeling. None of these 2,000 word posts are short stories in their own right, it's just stuff in the middle of either the rising action, the climax, or decending action. And by the next day it's just more stuff, I couldn't connect my emotions with what was happening, beyond my fannish love for Sheppard and McKay.

I've read short stories that got me all excited about them, not many are under 2000 words....but even short stories have some sort of tension/build up.

I guess my main complaint is I never really got excited about the fic and that's dissapointing, because I think this is the first real SGA fan fic novel posted online and I was really excited about it and now I'm not.

i'm sorry for that, because i think it's utterly brilliant. i hate being, even unintentionally, disappointed in something i had hopes for.

there was no need. you feel how you feel, and in a strange way it's a testament to the story that it made you feel so much, one way or the other.;)

yeah, if the writing truly sucked or the characters were way out of character I wouldn't care as much. it's just I hate when I start to get into something and then it ends, and I can't remember the next day why I felt that way in the first place. The beginning had longer parts I think and that's what pulled me in but now by the end....I pretty gave up once the characters I cared about died. um but yeah I learned my lesson, no more reading finished fics until they are posted all the way. All this did was make me resent the authors and feel annoyed. Not the kind of emotions I like to feel when I'm trying to have fun reading a story.

ah I forgot about that. Um I think i might be the only one have vocal LJ complaints about the way this fic was presented. everyone else seems to be keeping their complaints to IM.

character deaths never bother me when they're well done. it's part of storytelling, and as long as the deaths are well-woven into the logic of the story, then they'll resonate with me. we're supposed to feel loss when characters that we love die. but i can totally see how, on top of everything else, that would just bug. almost like a last straw, yeah?

yep this was certainly the last straw. Now I'm just reading to see how it ends but not sure why they bothered to write more with these new people? unless there is already a sequel in the work. One of the reasons, I sometimes didn't like Stephen King because he had a habit of killing off the most interesting characters in his books.

because the story, if it's not arrogant to presume for the writers, is about the circular nature of time, cause and effect, actions that are yours and not. i like that it didn't end with their deaths, and how it wrapped back to the timeline that we are familiar with, and yet is now totally different.
