Researching dogs
Oct. 2nd, 2005 11:39 pmFor the last hour I've been researching dog breeds. One of my neighbors in my apartment complex has the cutest dog ever and I figured someday when I get a dog I'd like one about that size and basically that cute. :) she says it's a Shih Tzu (it didn't look like the pictures I found on the net and was bigger than the dimensions I got) so it's possible it's a mix of something.
Anyway, I would love to have a dog that isn't higher than my knees, doesn't bark a lot, and has fur, but doesn't shed a lot. I guess I do want a lap dog to pet while I'm watching TV.
So I'm doing researching because purebreeds are damned expensive and apparently have a lot of health issues.
My conclusion is that I'm going to try finding a dog already 1-2 years old, is already housetrained, and possibly not a purebreed. but it was still a lot of fun to look at the pictures.

Date: 2005-10-03 11:24 am (UTC)Usually if there's a dog that's 1-2 years old and trained, that's because the owners want to keep it. It might be a little hard to find a trained dog like you want. But you can always get a puppy and hire someone to train him. It can cost something like $200 but it's worth it. Besides, I work at a vet clinic and $200 is nothing compared to what that dog will cost for the rest of his life. Pet owners don't realize that pets are expensive.

Date: 2005-10-03 08:34 pm (UTC)Right now my husband and I are waiting until we have a house with a backyard before we pick our pet. I'm just doing research ahead of time. :) I also want to make sure when we find our new family member we can afford him/her including vet expenses.
