Leaving LJ

Well this is going to be my last post to my personal LJ.

I'm not happy with customer support and basically my journal will probably be banned sometime in the future based on the new rules for LJ.

So without futher ado, here is where you can find me and my fic recs.

Aw, man. I was just getting used to livejournal! So sad to see you leave here :( Um.. also? What new rules?

Well it looks like any link to stories with characters under the age of 18 having sex is now against the rules. Also, it looks like even your private posts are no longer private if the guys in charge are looking for material to suspend accounts. Basically, I'm still upset with the way they deleted 2 journals without warning, after telling fandom that they were safe and after opening up permanent account sales.

The thing is they could have easily given both artists a warning, or posted a change of the rules in their news posts. But they didn't. And then they took a week to respond..I don't even spend money on my LJ and I felt like that was pretty bad service. I felt worse for the people who actually bought accounts and to see what they guys in charge did...shakes head.

There is no guarantee that the other sites will be better but I don't want to stick around and feel like a great big idiot as they lie to us again and again. I'd rather cut ties now while I still have some say and find a place with hopefully better service. (also with people who don't think their users are idiots...they also removed the strikethrough to attempt hiding who they banned...) it wasn't just one thing but a combination of factors that are driving my decision.

I'm ridiculously overdue in saying thank you for all your amazing recs -- this journal has been a fantastic resource for me, as we share so many fandoms, as well as taste in stories. I really appreciate all your effort in posting so regularly; it's a huge help, as I'm only able to check in on a sporadic basis.

(Blast it, I suppose this means I'm going to have to actually make the effort to set up accounts at JF, GJ and IJ, as so many fans are beginning to migrate. Not that I can blame anyone, of course, as LJ/6A has shown an unparalleled ability to shoot itself in the foot while simultaneously pissing off fandom most mightily.)

I look forward to continuing to read your recs elsewhere. :)

Hugs and you're welcome. I'm really glad other people seem to share my taste in fics too. :) I have no intention of stopping my recs.

Just wanted to say thanks for your recs, I do find them very useful. I read mainly in SGA but am just starting to read Jared/Jensen.

I've created GJ and IJ accounts to snag my name but am not using them yet. I will look you out over there so I can keep an eye on your recs :)

Sorry to see you go. I have a GJ account (starrylizard), but I have never really figured out the place. I'm just too comfortable here and being mostly a gen reader/writer, I personally feel pretty safe. I'll look out for you over on GJ though. Maybe if you find all the good fic comms, I'll be enticed to visit my GJ account more often. :)

Well I think it's going to take some time for the communities to get shifted over. but it looks like most of the writers of adult content are starting to cross post and are setting up communities. I think it's just going to take some time. And most Gen writeres don't really have to worry the same way about having their journals deleted so they can afford to take their time on moving. (assuming that's what they want to do.)

perhaps you can start an RSS feed here for your JF journal? it looks like RSS feeds will be the way to cross-link the various journals.

I think you have to have a paid journal account to create rss feeds. I'm going to try and do more research on this because I agree rss feeds seem to be the way to go.

nods. you do have to have a paid account. if you need one on LJ, drop me a note in a few days and I'll create one here for you. I don;t have paid accounts on any of the other 3-4 services so others will have to do those for you.

note: rss feeds will not show friends only posts (unless you use a feed software that will support this.) the generic feeds we create here on LJ and elsewhere do not.

the other option is to move your main journal to xxx and then use software to cross-post to multiple places including LJ. that way, if when LJ deletes your account here, no problem.

at the moment I'm crossposting to 3 journals, none of which are LJ. I just don't want to use LJ anymore. :( So basically an rss feed from LJ wouldn't work.

I was thinking I need to get an rss feed for my JF or IJ account and share that rss feed at LJ. Because those are the two accounts I can see myself staying long term at. I'm probably shooting myself in the foot by leaving LJ because that's where all the vidding communities are and I highly doubt many people are really leaving. Especially, now that they've reinstated Elaboration's lj.

But basically, i'm tired of the LJ team making rash decisions and not thinking things through before deleting journals and well they've already fooled fandom once, and this is the second time, I wouldn't be shocked if 4 months down the road they do something else...I just don't want to be there for the third screwup.

okay I feel like a dumbass, is it possible for you to create rss feeds here at LJ for sites off LJ??? Because if so, if you can make one for my IJ site at http://amalthia.insanejournal.com/ that would be great. Um no rush, I could be wrong on this. I really don't quite get rss feeds and how they work with LJ.

the way feeds work - if you're a paid user at x site - you can set up a rss feed for someone else's journal at any other site. friendslocked entries will not be shown and the feed shows only the last 25 entries.

since you'r'e planning on leeping LJ to read your lj friends (and their locked posts), you won't need feeds for the LJ friends. but if your friends are going somewhere else - JF or GF, you can set up your own feeds on IJ.
