The 300 has the same insides as the 505 just a smaller screen and no SD card slot. And it sounds like you found a good deal for it! :) I mostly just read fic on my device too.

Most of the people I've met love their 300s because they are smaller, lighter, and fit in pockets/purses better than the 505. I'm not sure all the bells and whistles are needed for reading?
