I had a wonderful xmas and well no internet for about 4 days so basically lots of cool stories were posted while I was gone including 2000 Yuletide fics so I look forward to catching up. :)

as for xmas gifts, I loved them all but right now my new Sony PRS-505 Reader tops the list, followed by my brother's gift the Burning Crusade Warcraft expansion set with strategy guide. However, I also liked the books and clothing I got from my parents, and my sister was very creative this year and got me a cd case with burned copies of Entourage and Medium. But the best gift of all was hanging out with my sister and two brothers for more than 1 hour at a time. We hadn't been completely together as a family in over a year. My dad was back from Iraq too and my baby neice was there. We played hours of Balderdash and omg my dad sucked at it but I swear his answers were the funniest. My mom made spagetti and well really that was the best meal I had while I was there because she had a lot of stuff to take care of for xmas day. We had I-Hop for dinner on xmas day and say Alien vs Predator because my husband I had work today and couldnt' stay in San Antonio too late. The side affect was we missed the ham my mom baked.

Also Alien vs Predator 2 SUCKED and I still can't believe people brought babies and small children to this movie. Um I also got to visit with my grandparents and saw National Treasure 2, it was a fun movie as long as you turn off your brain at the door. So all in all I had a wonderful xmas and I'm looking forward to the camping trip over new years weekend.

Posting early, because I'm re-reading this really really LONG HP fic that I can barely spell and well I can't stop reading it. Also, need a break from being online all the time.

Oh and I had a blast watching Die Hard last night, the new movie has a lot of cool action stuff, I liked the characters and I only had to handwave a few things they did and I"m okay with that. I totally loved True Lies even though I felt most of that stuff was physically impossible and in real life the good guys probably would have died a few times over. Die Hard is like that too but it's really fun watching John McLane go up against impossible odds and see what he does.
amalthia: (Doctor Who)
Going to the movies to see Die Hard tonight, so early recs! :)

Burdens to Bear and sequel Burdens to Hold by [livejournal.com profile] blue_soaring (Sam/Dean) both of these stories are incredibly hot.

SG-1

Not Us by [livejournal.com profile] paian (Daniel/Jack) This was bittersweet and it doesn't hurt that the sex is hot. :)

Stargate Atlantis

On the ground, off-world by [livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl (McKay/Lorne) INSTANT REC!!! I can't stop smiling after reading this story, it was hot, funny, and the ending was perfect.

Doctor Who

Mastery by [livejournal.com profile] ariafic (Master/Ten) This was kind of hot and I loved the Master's pov.

Nothing Safe about This Life by [livejournal.com profile] luzdeestrellas(Doctor/Rose) Loved their interaction here. :)
amalthia: (Farscape)
I think I'm becoming a bit obssessed with this movie series especially after the last movie. Can anyone recommend slash or het archives? or stories they particularly loved in this fandom????

Okay I'm off to see what icons I can find. I just finished watching Curse of the Black Pearl and I'd forgotten just how much I enjoyed it. :)

ETA: typed pirates of the caribbean into the LJ search box for interests. I'm officially overwhelmed by all the LJ communities for this trilogy.
amalthia: (Angel)
I'm borrowing the DVD Armageddon because it's one of my favorite movies ever and so tonight I go to put the legally bought version (that I had to beg and plead with my brother to part with for a month or two or until I go to San Antonio to visit my mom and him again) into my desktop DVD player...nothing happens.

At this point I have one of two choices, either rip the dvd with my laptop dvd player (which for some reason will recognize the dvd) or download the damn movie via torrents. I'm still debating on which one will be quicker to accomplish...keeping in mind I'd have to transfer the ripped dvd to my desktop (all 6 gigs) I'm not a happy camper tonight.

However, the rest of my weekend went rather well. I got the chance to visit my dad one last time before he heads for Iraq (for the third time), my parent's got Wookie their pet Shih-tzu to the vet in time to get an Benadryl (not sure what he got into but his face started to swell up and my parents rushed him to the vet, he's OK now) Got to see Spiderman 3 (Harry made the movie for me) hung out with my brother, saw Romancing the Stone again for the first time in about 10 years, my husband had never seen it and my brother and I were game to watch it again. I'd forgotten how funny the movie is, I loved it.

On the downside, allergies are kicking my ass, my nose is starting to hurt and I have no non-drowsy allergy medicine so tomorrow I'll have to pick some up at the pharmacy.

I didn't get a chance to read a lot this weekend and actually I'm trying to take a small break away from fan fiction for awhile because I don't want to overdo it to the point where I can't read Supernatural fan fiction.

My goal for this upcoming week is to also find some online writing exercises that I can try and accomplish so that I can become more comfortable with writing again. I realized that after I graduated college I haven't really done much in the way of formal writing or informal writing beyond what's written in my LJ and through emails. I feel out of practice and uncomfortable writing fiction.

Grindhouse

amalthia: (Doctor Who)
Well I saw Grindhouse tonight. I LOVED the first movie, it had zombies, action, it was way WAY over the top and so much fun to watch. (though very gory) The second movie was a big let down in comparison, but then again I've never been a big fan of monologuing in movies. In fact it was so boring my husband and I decided to leave. (basically the commericals within the movie were a lot more entertaining than the second movie)

All in all I had a fun time.
amalthia: (Doctor Who)
I finally saw this movie after trying to watch it since it first came out. I reallly enjoyed it but I don't think I quite got the ending. Though it could be because the subtitles of the song at the end were under the subtitles of teh characters speaking, so I had to go back and watch tha scene dubbed....um and then I couldn't stop laughing.

All in all, my husband and I had a fun time watching. :)

I also made crispy tacos tonight and they were REALLY good. It's been a while since I made crispy tacos and no this did not come out of a box. I just got hamburger meat, made a thin layer on one side of a corn tortilla, fried it in frying pan, added a bunch of colby jack cheese. The only thing missing was the guacomole.

Okay, will now return to reading. :)

edit: I also loved the newest episode for Doctor Who. Martha works for me...but I still miss Rose.

This movie sucked. You know I heard there were going to be a lot of speeches but I didn't realize that's how everyone would talk like in the movie! Not even the battle sequences could salvage this movie. Honestly Braveheart did it so much better.

the best thing I can say about the movies as the Spartan's bodies were really nice to look at, if the guys had names...i didn't catch them.

overall really bad movie and I couldn't believe people clapped at the end. I'm thinking maybe I missed something?
amalthia: (Farscape)
Trailer

Am I the only one that feels really excited about seeing this movie already??? I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it's good. It has potential to go either way, though it does give me heart to know that they've been working on this movie for a while now, it's just not slapped together like some other movies that have come out recently.
amalthia: (Angel)
Okay I originally planned to watch Prison Break tonight and go to bed early. however, I started playing around with my new account on Imeem... and decided that I kind of would like to have a banner....however I haven't worked with graphics in over 3 years and then I had to go look for screen caps, or see if I can borrow someone else's header/banner and well I found screencaps. But not many people have made headers/banners for Children of Dune.

Basically, I really need to give a lot more thanks to all the wonderful people that make icons and graphic headers for people on LJ and other sites because dude this isn't easy!!! 2 hours later I kind of have a banner. I was afraid to even put text on it...however I like the children of dune and I find the pictures are kind of pretty.

Now I just need to upload a few of my other music videos and I'll be good to go for tonight.
amalthia: (Doctor Who)
The Fountain!!!! sucked! um okay I thought it was very very boring and didn't make a lot of sense and basically I figured in case anyone on my flist had given thought to watching the movie, I should warn them ahead of time. The movie was only 1 hour and 24 minutes but it felt like FOREVER. really I one time watched paint dry and had more fun.

Also I spent some time yesterday reading bad fic, not sure what was wrong with me, but with this one story it was like a train wreck and it was like 50k words long and it had potential but just wasn't happening.
amalthia: (Stargate Atlantis)
Walk This Way by [livejournal.com profile] yin_again I liked the premises of this AU. :)

Do I Know You From a Frat Mixer, or Another Galaxy? by [livejournal.com profile] tzi and [livejournal.com profile] zaganthi INSTANT REC!!!! this was written for the bad sex challenge on [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic and wow this was really bad sex and it's kind of sad and the writing just flows and I feel bad for Rodney in this story. I can't express how much I loved Rodney's voice and the imagery and how everything fell into place.

Movie Rec....

I saw Little Miss Sunshine tonight with my husband and we had a blast. :) this was funny, had some good family moments, and then it ended. Well worth the cost of going.
amalthia: (Doctor Who)
I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!! and basically no amount of negativity will change my opinion about it. :) i had a blast...um basically it gave me everything I wanted. I think I screamed a bit more than the other people, there were some rather startling moments but all in all, really enjoyed my time at the movies tonight. :)

My husband also enjoyed the movie though he said I scared him more than the actual movie because I'd scream and grab his arm and cover my eyes a bit, and then peek out just as a snake would jump at the screen or something. So naturally, I had a blast. I love movies that actually make me get involved.

Okay really sleepy now. Night everyone.
