San Diego U.S. Go Congress

amalthiaI joined my husband in San Diego for the 2017 U.S. Go Congress. I feel like all the comic con conference reports always fail to mention just how awesome the weather is in this area. It's August, but it's not hotter than 75 and at night it's in the low 70s high 60s, which coming from Alaska feels great!
It's only day 2 into the conference and my husband and I finally figured out why the mall behind the Town and Country resort is called Fashion Valley, that place has nothing but clothing stores, though to be fair I found a place where you can make your own Teddy Bear / My Little Pony, a Disney store, and two chocolate stores. We visited the Tesla shop because when else are we going to see a Tesla up close and personal???? In Alaska, it'll be a cold day in hell. My goal is to build myself a "My little pony" stuffed animal for me, and then maybe build a bear for the daughter of the guy who is cat sitting for us. I may revise this option once I see the pricing. Or get the smaller sized stuff animal option.
We plan to visit the zoo and go to the beach before heading home. In the meantime, I'm enjoying the weather, reading fanfiction, and looking for okay food places nearby (the hotel restaurants have highway robbery prices and mediocre food.) Not sure we can survive the next 5 days on Fashion Valley food court food.
The US Go Conference is expensive to me, but my husband hopes to be ranked and is playing Go every morning. It's kind of fun to see all the families attending and realizing that parents ponied up a lot money for their children to participate.
