The Long Goodbye

Everything is under the cut because I don't think I can say much about this episode without giving away MASSIVE amount of spoilers...

I don't have anything deep or meaningful to say, I really just want to squee about this episode. I can't believe it two episodes in a row that I really liked. There were some parts where the characters were terminally stupid...but I'm willing to forgive them because hey the alien Sheppard made a convincing real Sheppard. And Ronon wasn't actually in the room when the exchange took place.

Anyway, the point is the episode had action, tension, a alienSheppard/alienWeir kiss (I know wish it was really them kissing too), I loved the Rodney/Caldwell scenes...I'm convinced that maybe Rodney and Caldwell should get together. Not sure John's going to be happy about Rodney shooting a EDIT: gun (not machine gun) at him...though if I were John I'd also get upset that with all those shots fired, none came close to hitting the target (which was John). Not even a graze. Maybe Rodney can make it up to John later....during target practice? EDIT: I read in someone else's journal that Rodney did nick John with a bullet...however on first viewing I must have missed that part...need to re-watch to see for sure.

I really felt for Teyla...the second time this season she was faced with the choice to shoot Sheppard, glad she stalled for time.

Did I mention how much I loved Rodney in this episode? and Caldwell! I still want to know how long Caldwell was under the influence of the goa'uld...

Great John eye-candy...omg he's really really hot when he's action John. :) Weir also looked great running around shooting stuff up.

This episode meet my expectations (which were actually rather high going in) and I would not mind seeing it again. :)

edit: I just realized something, did the alienWeir pick Sheppard because she wanted a good fight before she killed him??? because picking a high ranking military person doesn't make sense if you just want the other person dead. She should have picked Rodney or Carson or even some other poor schmuck. Her motives were confusing, she wants the guy DEAD but suggests Sheppard as the host? Which leads me to believe she wanted a good fight before she killed him.



btw if my using all caps sometimes annoys you just let me know. I try not to do it too much but lately I've felt like it. :)

correction, it was John's sidearm. Can I say how much I loved taht he handed it over to Rodney and not Caldwell?

ah you're right! I just saw a lot of bullets hitting everything but John...I guess John did hand the gun to the right person if he wanted to avoid getting killed. :) hehe

p.s. Yes you can say you loved the part when John gave his weapon to Rodney. :) I loved that part too!!!

I have read nothing but positive reviews about this episode - I've been waiting for ages for an episode which has more Elizabeth in it because frankly, I wanted to see her kick some ass!

I know Torri mentioned that she loved making this epi and so I was all excited about it. I'm so glad to hear you write something positive - because I'm DL it now and can't wait to watch it later.

As for Rodney, OMG, I was a bit afraid that he wouldn't be in it much... DH mentioned that he had fun filming the scenes with PM and Mitch... so I was relaly looking forward to Caldwell in this episode too.

As for Teyla, I do want more of her too.

Sounds like a great epi with lots of team work - can't wait to watch.

PS, hardly noticed your use of caps. Now if you wrote whole sentences or paragraphs in caps, then it may annoy me a little, but I think it's fine! :-D

lol, you're not supposed to read the spoilers before you watch the show! :) hehe ah well it had a lot of good moments and reading isn't the same as watching. :)

I can't wait to hear how you like it when you do get to see the episode. :)

Squeee! I can't wait for this ep now! Unfortunately it'll be weeks before it's shown in the UK but it's nice to have something to look forward to. And the prospect of some Caldwell/Rodney is definitely something I'm pleased about :-)

I never would have imagined this pairing except they really had some good interactions in this episode and can you imagine Caldwell (who to me seems kind of uptight) trying to stay in a relationship with Rodney? Actually, I still kind of like Caldwell and this episode just reinforced my like for his character. Now they just need to add more Lorne interaction with the main characters and I'll be even more happy...it also probably wouldn't hurt to see Parrish again either.

Weir (even though it really wasn't Weir) kicking ass was awesome. I loved the part when she beat up Lorne and those other four guys all by herself. Squee.

not sure about the "Weir thinks John is hot so I better pick him to kill" theory. Personally, I'd pick him if I could have one last fling...but if I just wanted to kill someone I'd pick the weakest target I could find. I'd really like to know how this episode would have played out if she picked someone who had like ZERO tactical knowledge...the What Ifs for this episodes are all over the place for me. Which is great. :)

there was a graze. that's why John has a field dressing on his left arm the entire time.;)

I honestly didn't even notice until I started reading other people's impression of the episode. I think the Defiant One I noticed that he got shot because they made a big production of him bandaging himself...but this time I really didn't notice at all. I'll blame the fact that I was watching at 2am for why I missed some stuff. :)

it's a quick transition scene really. i think it cuts to Elizabeth first and then to John who's just finishing tying off his field dressing.

I wouldn't be surprised if they just skipped over that part in real detail...in the shot where Rodney is firing it looks like he missed every shot...but looking at some screencaps...yeah I notice he has a bandage. :)

I think everything points to the fact that she was a warrior, fierce and lethal and competent, so yes, I think she chose Sheppard because she did want a fair fight -- that maneuvre at the end was clearly something she only resorted to because she was running out of time.

Nice ep review. I, too, liked the ep quite a bit.
