This was a good episode but....

it's not as good as the last three or four episodes. Don't get me wrong, I was on the edge of my seat but I was suspcious from the get go (the wraith were too nice and accomodating) and some of the characters decisions had me scratching my head.

first...how was the computer worm able to get that kind of vital information off the earth/ancient database? if the wraith data was on a non-networked computer. Personally, I've never been able to access another computer once I unplug my computer (manually) from my home network. If they trusted firewalls to protect their important data...omg they are terminally stupid.

second...why did Weir let Rodney and Ronon go onto the Wraith ship before they reached their destination? Don't get me wrong I loved the scenes with Ronon and Rodney on the ship and rodney's reactions. (I guess ronon has to worry more about getting shot instead of fed on since he's immune)

third....why would the Wraith need the reto-virus to feed off other Wraith? In the Defiant One that wraith that survived managed to eat other Wraith. (I felt like Sheppard should have pointed that out in hte big group meeting)

There was a lot I really loved about this episode. Mostly the Rodney/John moments, the meeting between Teyla and Michael (wish there was more of this and a deeper conversation besides the old re-hashed arguments they used in Michael). I loved Carson's scenes with the Wraith, him and Zelenka were great it was so funny watching them talk to the Wraith and how they sometimes forgot to be scared and then when they remembered the not so subtle inching away.

I loved the scenes with Rodney and John on the Orion.

I also like the idea of the Wraith ships making it to earth (or our home galaxy) my husband and I had a discussion over what would really happen if this was real life and the humans really were screwed. (I just know Sheppard got sucked into the hyperspace window, and that Ronon and Rodney will somehow survive) I just had this mental image of the Wraith vs the Ori who would win???? then throw in some Jaffa, the Nox, the Asgard. I have a feeling the Wraith will need more than 2 ships to really make a dent in the milky way galaxy. They've had 10,000 years of being the top dogs in their galaxy I don't know if they really know how to wage a war anymore, let alone against beings with the powers of the ancients or the thousands of Jaffa motherships. (I'm going to assume there are still thousands because I've yet to see an accurate account of the Jaffa's ships and they always seem to have a lot)

My theory is this clan of Wraith didn't share their hyperdrive technology with the rest of the wraith because they want all the free "happy-meals" they can get. (btw...I had to infer the reason the Wraith are able to make a hyperspace jump to Earth is because they used the specs from the Aurora to modify their own hyperdrives, now how they knew exactly what to grab out of all the information on that database???? I have no idea.)

So while yes I'm looking forward to seeing how they get out of the mess they put themselves in I just don't feel the same level of fright for the characters or the tension I felt at the end of last season's cliff-hanger ending.

I'm not going to really talk about the moral implications of this episode because lets face it the morals in this episode are shadier than a two-dollar whore, but like Teyla said they are trying to survive, so I'm willing to go with the us-vs-them mentality. Though again why the wraith need to turn other wraith into humans to feed.....???? yeah I'd like an answer to that one.

OH and I think Michael might still be ticked off about this hair. I mean you notice all the other guy Wraith have long hair...ouch it must really bug him every time he looks in a mirror, a constant reminder of the evils of humans. Though I liked when he said humans and wraith are very much a like. except for their food source problem, I think Wraiths and Humans are very similar in personality.

edit: forgot to mention how much I really really loved Rodney and Hermiod's time together in this episode. I love, not just love, LOVE the Asgard.

Probably Wraith taste bad to other Wraith, so turning them human makes filet mignon out of badly cooked brisket. Especially since frightened humans seem to taste better, too (seeing as they go through great lengths to play with their food).

The whole retrovirus thing - it bothers me that not only did they not seem to have a backup plan, but also they didn't seem to have thought through the primary plan. Good, grief.

Also, I suspect some of that was the writers saying, "Oh, shit - what are we going to do if this retrovirus crack ever actually works?" "I don't know - let's leak the specs to the Wraith and have them develop a vaccine, so we don't have to worry abou that."

Wow - that's so not the reason I am watching the show. They have been making bad decisions ever since Sheppard couldn't keep his ass out of the chair, or Sumner just had to go check out that fortification that would bring the bad guys, or they tested a new ancient device by shooting McKay in the leg, or they giggled madly about no longer needing FDA approval of government oversight... And then they went on to steal candy from babies.

After all the best stories are the ones where the good guys are smart and try their best but the bad guys are equally inventive and intellegent.
Has there been an episode like that? No, really - a single one?

Because, yes, the Wraith are scary smart and inventive. And, yes, the Atlantis team can be quite clever. But in the same episode? Not so much.

This isn't great fiction. It isn't fully thought through. But it is light and fluffy and a lot of fun. It's total pick-me-up comfortable and make me giggle at your crack-addled ways kind of fun. This is not a Joss Whedon series - there is certain lack of doom.

Even Inferno had a healthy dose of crack. Cause, really, how do you come up with that story? "Well, we need them to find more firepower..." "I know, a *spaceship*" "Well, we haven't gotten rid of the sets for the Aurora." "Cool, but there has to be danger!" "Okay, how about liquid hot magma?" "Ooohhh... cool, and we can have the Stargate dissolved like the ring at Mt Doom." "Oh, man, that'd be awesome! How can we stretch this out over a whole show?" "Well, there can be banter - and we'll probably need a girl." "Oh, great man, a girl. Only let's mix it up this time and have Sheppard flirting with her instead of the other way around." "You know what would be even cooler? If McKay is the one she's really interested in." "Yeah, this is *gold*!" Or something like that.
