Supernatural: First Impressions by Henry Jenkins.

I'm not sure who this guy is but I do remember the poll way back last fall because people on my flist read this guy and mentioned it. Anyway, I read this guy's impressions and I was floored with all my memories for why I fell in love with Supernatural in the first place. I've been watching this show since the VERY FIRST episode aired and I guess because I had to wait to see how it all unfolded I'd kind of forgotten when and why I started to consider Supernatural "can't miss tv." anyway this essay brought back good memories it's all positive about Supernatural and now I feel like re-watching season 1 again.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I've been keeping an eye out on Henry Jenkins since the early 1990's, when he published Textual Poachers. I have been involved with organised media fandom since 1981, and found both zines and conventions soon after. Books like Star Trek Lives were an interesting insight, from within fandom, about the larger world of sf media fandom - Star Trek in particular.

But Textual Poachers was interesting, as it was written at a time when I was heavily involved with organised slash fandom - attending slash cons and helping run a small slash zine press - so seeing an outsider's take on fandom, including filking, slash and vidding, was fascinating.

From memory, he is a professor of media studies at MIT? This is his cv: http://web.mit.edu/cms/People/henry3/cv.html I find his take on fannish collaboration, especially female participation, interesting if a little overthought. He often gets quoted when fans start that old round-robin of 'Why women write slash'... *g*

And I am very glad he likes SPN... *g*
