Interesting link
Jan. 22nd, 2007 04:26 pmA subjective comparison of Germany and the United States my husband found this somewhere and I thought it was funny in parts and scary in others but overall an interesting read. Especially since my husband was born and raised in Belgium and sometimes we have wildely opposing viewpoints on some issues and well the information here kind of helped explain some of it. :)

Date: 2007-01-23 06:14 am (UTC)The thing that sticks out the most for me (besides the general outlook of naive optimism vs. hesitant pessimism) is that most German don't normally write checks. That's probably because I've just been writing out checks to pay bills.

Date: 2007-01-23 06:58 pm (UTC)It's true. The first time an American asked me to send a check I was totally flabbergasted. Check? What check? I have never seen a check in my life.

Date: 2007-01-24 03:39 am (UTC)Heh. I used to write reams of checks for bills and other purchases. I started using debit cards, automatic withdrawals and online payments ona regualr basis within the last 3-4 years.
I still write checks for rent and utilities because there is no set up for automatic withdrawal of funds from my account yet.

Date: 2007-01-24 03:41 am (UTC)I've been paying more and more bills online (or set up automatic withdrawals) but there are some local companies that are kinda small so they don't have that capability. I have to write monthly checks to them.
