There aren't a lot of recs today because I'm kind of training a new guy for the night shift. I think either this guy is kind of dumb or I'm doing a piss poor job of training this guy. The reason I'm doubting his intellegence is just a general impression and something that came up today that took me by surprise. In my job we monitor markets across all of the United states and across 4 time zones. So we are in the central time zone and I was explaining that in our monitoring we have to take into account the different times for east and west coast. This is how I found out that he had no clue if it was 3pm in Texas he didn't know what time it was in Califorina or New York, let alone mountain time. :( At first I thought he was joking because really I thought everyone learned about time zones at the very least in the United States. But he seemed quite serious and so I gave him the answer so he could write that down in his notes. but seriously....I was baffled. He doesn't ask questions and I don't realize he didn't understand what I'd cover until I put him in front of the computer (he can't type either btw) and watch him not do what I showed him to do. (it's still second day of training I have until Friday to make sure he knows how to do this job)
But maybe i'm giving off 'don't ask questions' vibes? So i'm going to take it slower tomorrow and see if that helps. Patience isn't my strong suit and never have I felt it more in trying to train my newest co-worker. But I'm going to try harder tomorrow and not just assume he understood until I see him doing the job right. There are times I really wish I'd taken classes or something that would have taught me how to teach.
