A confession
Apr. 30th, 2010 11:35 pmGuys, I'm totally watching Stargate Universe and I can't wait to see next week's episode.
I don't know when this happened (I suspect it was the episode with the aliens that borrowed into everyone's bodies and killed them, but due to a wormhole time travel plot device...it happened more than once! which was rather awesome) but from that episode on it got better. The characters are seriously flawed (and more like real people than I thought they could pull off) so anyways, the characters have grown on me, the plot has me interested in seeing what happens next, and they actually show characters in bed together. (really in all the time I've watched Stargate I've wanted to see more of that)
So I guess I'm glad I decided to give it a shot and stuck through the boring first few episodes and also they finally stopped using the stones to connect to earth so I think that's helped make the show stronger. (but it's still not really sci-fi because they focus more on the character drama stuff, it reminds me a bit of Lost actually) However it fulfills my weekly need to watch TV where people explore planets and travel around on a spaceship. I think also the actors have figured out their characters a bit more so they aren't as exaggerated as they were at the beginning?
in other news, I believe my SPN Big Bang will definitely be ready by tomorrow. I got another 2,500 words written today bringing my total up to...

Go me!

Date: 2010-05-01 06:27 pm (UTC)Last week on SGU Ken, Barbie, Self-Insert and Token were trapped in some old tunnels. This week, Token makes it back to Deus Ex Machina (DeM for short) sans the Pretty People and Marty Stu, who had left him for dead. Meanwhile, Professor Asshole behaved selfishly some more and then tried to behave less selfishly but nobody wanted to hear that shit. And General Asshole frowned and grumped a lot and continued to be ineffective. TJ angsted about being knocked up with General Asshole's sprog, which is entirely understandable. Lt. Big Boobs was upset about something or other. We seem to have mislaid the Asian Lesbian, and the civilians were background noise at best.
My biggest complaint at the moment is they have apparently forgotten that if they stick their arm in the event horizon it will hold the gate open and Destiny WILL NOT JUMP TO FTL. They've used that plot device, and now they've forgotten it. It drives me nuts!
And yet...fuck if I don't want to see next week's episode anyway! heh

Date: 2010-05-01 07:47 pm (UTC)I also kind of like that they are giving us character information on where these guys and women are coming from...I don't know it's working for me. And I can live with flashbacks much more than stones connecting them to earth. (and the reason for not using the stones is pretty compelling) :)

Date: 2010-05-01 07:53 pm (UTC)I think they need to tread carefully with the flashbacks. I got really, really over flashbacks with two seasons of Lost.
Ken probably has some survival training, one would hope. But Eli and Barbie don't.
Definitely the reason not to use the stones is valid. The reason they're not using the Open Stargate So Destiny Won't Jump failsafe is not at all valid. In fact I don't think they've given a reason. Just pretended it never happened.
But this is twice they've left people behind now, and wildly coincidentally been able to get them back. They need to find a better way to handle that.
It's still very much on probation with me. And half the time I can't be assed to remember anyone's name. It is full of fail in the way only a show written my white male geeks can be, but I'm still watching. Which says more about me than the show, I think. :)
