I literally spent all weekend on my final term project for my Introduction to cataloging class. I finished it at 10:45 pm and I've submitted it so now I just have to wait for the grades to see how I did. I'm rather nervous about this project because I really felt like I had no clue what I was doing trying to find subject headings at the using Classification Web. I'm glad I had a good professor this semester because seriously she was still answering questions at 8pm Texas time. In my database class you had to ask questions DAYS in advance if you wanted any help.

It's kind of weird, I really thought that cataloging might come easily to me since I've been running archives for over ten years but fandom archiving is smaller on scale vs the Library of Congress and in this class I felt like we've barely touched the tip of the ice berg. I think next semester I need to take the second part before I forget everything I learned this semester.

I'm happy this semester is over and I can enjoy the next month of no school and going on vacation to visit my BFF [livejournal.com profile] lovesrain44 in Colorado in January. :)

Now that I have free time I feel at a loss I've been putting so much stuff off this semester that it feels like I forgot to have fun or enjoy any of my usual hobbies. I was tell my husband yesterday that I'm having a difficult time enjoying my hobbies and his response was to find new ones. (Not helpful!)

I don't even enjoy reading anymore. :( Which is for me not normal. I'm going to try and read more sci-fi and fantasy novels. I still haven't read Cryoburn by Lois Bujold McMasters yet or the Havemercy novels, or the newest Robin Hobb books. I also found the newest Carol Berg fantasy novels. Maybe I just need a break from fandom stories. I used to read a much wider variety of stories and once I got busy with school I stopped.

Lately I've been playing Mahjong and listening to music.

I think the only thing I know I'd like to do before the end of the year is to create my favorite fics of 2010 rec list.

being too busy...

Everyone in school is too busy to enjoy their free time... but it will get better! The Havemercy books are good for sure. I didn't love the Robin Hobb last series I tried, but she can tell a story, that's for sure. Did you read the Sarah Monette novels? Awesome. I don't know Carol Berg's stuff. Karen Fae Moning's Fae series is a fast engrossing read, if you want Buffyish fic to try...
