I created an account on Tumblr because I kept finding these interesting DCU communities and then I realized some of my flist have Tumblr and are using it. But I haven't figured out what to follow or how to post just yet. Not sure if I should just share the same stuff there that I share here, like recs or if I should post other things?

In any case, I'm http://amalthia.tumblr.com/

I'd love to know whe else on my flist is using Tumblr and what they find most helpful about the site vs using DW/LJ.

My initial impressions is that it's made for easily sharing photos and videos.

I've had a Tumblr for a couple of months and I definitely find it a fun way of sharing photos and videos. (Some people post a lot, others, like me, mostly just reblog things that other people post.) You can follow specific other Tumblrs, and also track tags, so you can find images that aren't on your "flist".

It's not a great way of socialising with other people, IMO, there isn't an easy way to have a conversation, but it's a lot easier than DW/LJ for just posting picspams or linking to videos that you'd like to be able to find again.

Basically, not a substitute for DW/LJ, but it can be a fun add-on if you've got time to play with it.

If you search for something in the search box and it exists as a tag, it'll offer you the option to track it. Then you get a link at the side of your Dashboard which takes you to the stream of posts featuring that tag, and an indication of how many new posts there have been. I found it a great way of finding Tumblrs I wanted to follow. (Or you do on the website, I'm not sure where it is in the mobile interface.)

About the slash, I'm not sure, except that if you are following the right tags, I suspect you'll fall over it, and then you know some Tumblrs to look out for - that's what I did in Sherlock fandom.
