Tonight I found out my husband had no clue what Winnie the Pooh was about, had never read the books, or saw the cartoons growing up.

Yeah! I sometimes completely forget that we grew up watching different cartoons. :)

Well to be fair he did grow up in Belgium. I think they had different cartoons.

But the book! The book is English. And England is, like, right there! I am still boggling.

He didn't learn English until he was 22! I'm still a bit surprised that it wasn't translated into Dutch.

I wrote a Sherlock story about Winnie the Pooh as every child's reading (plot point was that John had never read the books). I was surprised by how many readers of the story said they'd never read them, either.

I think for anyone growing up in the United States/English speaking countries it is far to easy too assume that everyone else had the same books growing up. (or watched the same cartoons) or at least it is for me...I'm trying to be better about that.
