After Earth (no spoilers)

Just got back from movies and I had a lot of fun watching After Earth. I went in expecting a snooze fest or worse, and ended up entertained from beginning to end. Loved Jaden Smith's acting, the plot, the character moments, and the special effects were top notch.

I think at this point I can no longer trust the movie reviewers because I don't know what movie they saw but this one was not a 12% at Rottentomatoes.

thank you! I knew it wasn't going to suck. reading those negative reviews tripped my "bullshit people say when they expect one thing and get another even though the fucking commercials made it very clear that this was not a Will Smith is a sassy snark master movie" sense

I didn't feel at all tricked. The trailers did show what the movie was going to be about and that's exactly what the movie gave.

that's what I'm saying. several of the reviews I read, people acted like the trailers were advertising an entirely different movie than the one that they saw. But from their description of what they saw, there was no deception. Stupid reviewers.

I'm beginning to wonder if the reviewers would have been this harsh if the movie featured two white actors???

Honestly, that was my very first thought. Will wasn't playing the wise-cracking (non-threatening) funny black guy. He was playing a more serious role that is usually only played by white dudes, especially in scifi flicks. Racism is pernicious.

Thanks for posting this. I thought it looked interesting from the trailer, then was seeing review headlines (I don't even read the reviews) saying it was awful.

I'm not saying it's Gone with the Wind quality of storytelling, but it's not as awful as the reviewers make it out to be either. I also think the reviewers don't know any military veterans...
