I've been reading articles from newsweek and I found one about a family that was separted and the mom was talking about about hearing some girl crying because she was being raped and I'm like WTF if you're hearing someone get attacked why don't you do something!!!! I mean there were a lot of people there. It reminds me of that case in New York where 30 people stood around and did nothing while a young woman was stabbed to death. The man who killed her ran off a few times but kept coming back when he realized no one was going to call the police or stop him.
All I can say is that this attitude sickens me and it's one of the reasons why you can't trust other people to help look out for you, because when the going gets tough, people only take care of themselves and don't want to get involved. (not all people do this but enough so that it's not worth trusting anyone to protect me from murders or rapists)
I mean if no one was willing to help that girl getting raped in a crowded shelter...that's not a good sign of where we are headed as a society.

But yeah, people can be real shitty sometimes. But like I alluded to in another comment, the good comes with the bad. Just like there are people who won't do anything, there are people who die helping. I remember a thing I saw once (it was about a plane crash) and one of the men bypassed being saved so that other people would be saved first. He ended up dying for that.
