Panel ideas
Jan. 25th, 2007 02:01 pmI've suggested two panels for Escapade one is for vidding and another is what I consider just fun. I think the vidding suggestion is probably going to be more controversial than who's the top or bottom between Sam or Dean....okay maybe not.
but anyway. I'm trying to think of a panel topic that will cover darkfics in a new way.
For example, I notice Stargate Atlantis doesn't really have a lot of darfics/non-con and I'm curious as to why? Is it that the majority of the writers in this fandom really like happy romantic stories and so if someone posts a darkfic there is zero feedback or fan backlash? Or maybe it's there but because I rare go to archives anymore I'm missing these stories???
and for that matter does anyone use archives anymore? I know for myself I primarily use my LJ to find and read fan fiction.
Supernatural I think should also have more darkfics (and there are some and the ones i've read have kicked ass on many levels) but I'd expect more considering just how dark this show is...but again I could be missing it.
Also is the long story format going the way of the dinsaour because of the size restrictions on LJ? My memories could be faulty but I could have sworn the Highlander, Sentinel, and X-Files fans wrote more epic novels back in the day before LJ became so popular. Lately it seems like most of the stories I run into are 2k words - 10k words long.
So I'm trying to put all these ideas together and figure out how to phrase this, so if it does get selected as a panel for this convention, people actually show up and have something to discuss.

Date: 2007-01-26 01:42 am (UTC)I know that for me, I was totally into darkfic the first season, but season two hit and I got so much darkness from the show I totally couldn't handle it in the fic.
I'm sad about the move away from archives, personally. I hate having to surf all over creation and hope that I find a story. The newsletters help, but it's not really enough. I miss having a cohesive search function.
I think it's more...acceptable? now to do short stories. I don't think it's size restrictions so much as some sort of...expectation of brevity in posts? I'm not saying that well.
Good luck with your panel topic ideas! I so wish I could go this year. *pouts*
oh, randomly, I used to go by Calysta Rose. One Escapade we talked for several hours while Robin and ZR and the others were watching porn or something, in the background. :)

Date: 2007-01-26 02:00 am (UTC)About archives. I'm keeping mine up and going and I notice the older archives are still around it's just I noticed for Supernatural there doesn't seem to be a central archive or maybe I just got lazy about finding them. Though I did find the Sam/Dean archive. :)
I also like the search engines.

Date: 2007-01-26 02:50 am (UTC)I don't mind you friending me at all! :D I friended you too.
I'm glad you're keeping your archive going, and that the older archives are still in business. I'm hoping that archives will take off for SPN fandom. Robin did too, which is why she set up http://www.winchesterjournal.com Not that there's been a lot of people posting there.
Is that Leto 2 and Ghanima in your icon? They're so pretty.

Date: 2007-01-26 03:06 am (UTC)And yes that is Leto and Ghanima for my icon. :) I'm thinking of switching it out for another one where they are about to kiss. Okay I absolutely loved Children of Dune and the relationship between Leto and Ghanima I think that really is canon incest...at least in the books I think they did more than kiss.

Date: 2007-01-26 03:12 am (UTC)I can't recall if they did more than kiss (explicitly) in the books. But I remember having the impression that Ghanima only married...um....shoot, I just lost it. Faradn(sp) Corrino! okay, so she only married him because they a) needed the political alliance and b) Leto was...um, no longer able to play hide the sandtrout with her. :D
I adored their closeness in the movie. And so pretty. I wouldn't be surprised if Herbert had gone there with the incest, he got a bit kinky in those later books. :)
For awhile I had an icon that had Leto/Ghanima, River/Simon, Lincoln/Michael and Sam/Dean. I embrace the sibcest. :)

Date: 2007-01-26 03:39 am (UTC)And yes, Sam and Dean are utterly exquisite. I'm so far in love with Jensen/Dean that I can't even be embarrassed about it. Took me longer with Jared/Sam, in part because in the early stills they'd freaking airbrush his moles. And that's just wrong. But I finally fell for him too. :D
